bwin have slashed the price on Chelsea signing Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke after reports suggested the Blues have turned to the Belgian international after missing out, along with Manchester City, on long-term target Edinson Cavani.
Chelsea’s pursuit of the Napoli forward looks as though it is coming to an unsuccessful end, with the big-spending French champions Paris Saint-Germain at an advanced stage of negotiations for the forward, who appears set to complete a £53 million move to the Ligue 1 club.
PSG have agreed to pay the release clause in the Uruguayan’s contract, something that Chelsea were apparently reluctant to do, and it has left new Blues boss Joe Mourinho still searching for the marquee striker he has earmarked as he tries to improve his squad ahead of the new campaign.
And with Milan refusing to contemplate the sale of their own star striker Stephen El Shaarawy, also a reported Chelsea target, it now seems that Mourinho is setting his sights on Benteke.
The Villa striker enjoyed a brilliant first campaign in England, hitting 19 Premier League goals following his £7 million move from Genk last summer, and it has made him one of the hottest properties in the top flight.
Villa boss Paul Lambert has so far insisted that the 22-year-old is not for sale at any price, although with a bid in the region of £25 million believed to be enough for the Villans to do business, clubs are circling around Benteke.
News of Chelsea’s interest has forced bwin to slash the odds on Benteke ending up at Stamford Bridge next season from 10/1 to 2/1 – but Tottenham remain the favourites to land the Belgian, with bwin going 6/4 that Villa’s N0.20 signs for Spurs this summer.
Liverpool, who are said to be monitoring the situation, are 10/1 to sign Benteke, with Arsenal an 11/1 chance.
Aston Villa are even money to keep hold of Benteke after September 3rd, while it is 20/1 and bigger he signs for any other club.
