As the Boxing Day fixtures showed, games in the festive period can throw up some surprising results and with three interesting Premier League fixtures on Tuesday, some less frequent scorers from Arsenal, QPR and Spurs will all be hoping to see their names on more than just Christmas cards.
Here’s a look at the best goalscorer bets in those three games:
Arsenal v Wolves
Match odds: Arsenal 11/50 Draw 5/1 Wolves 11/1
Following six straight away defeats, Wolves look like easy prey for Arsenal and while it now goes without saying that Robin van Persie (7/10 to score anytime) should take advantage, Arsene Wenger will hope this game also gives an opportunity for other forwards to get much-needed goals.
Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh are two major signings who’ve struggled to make an impression this season but have recently earned some game time at Man City and Aston Villa and with the transfer window coming up, it’s worth considering either at 8/5 and 13/10 respectively to get a goal as a reminder of their talents.
Swansea v QPR
Match odds: Swansea Evens Draw 9/4 QPR 14/5
The side bottom of the five-game form table versus the league’s best home defence looks a no-brainer in football betting terms but Rangers have tended to reserve their best displays for matches away from Loftus Road.
Neil Warnock’s side have three times as many away wins than at home and in ex-Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd, they also have a player highly motivated to perform well on his return to Wales.
The form of top scorer Heidar Helgulson (2/1 to score anytime) means Bothroyd will likely have to make his impact from the bench, meaning he’s worth backing at 11/2 to get the game’s final goal.
Norwich v Tottenham
Match odds: Norwich 333/100 Draw 11/4 Spurs 3/4
A match between two of the Premier League’s most attack-minded sides (Spurs and Norwich have combined for 13 games with over 3.5 goals) should offer great goalscoring opportunities to the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor (7/5 to score anytime), Grant Holt (2/1) and Rafael van der Vaart (17/10).
However, with so many games over the festive period, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp may extend that chance to some of his less-frequently used players. Roman Pavyluchenko has drawn praise from the Spurs boss for his ability to make an impact from his limited opportunities and is worth considering at 6/1 to get the final goal as he did in Spurs’ last away game.
