Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Swansea last night put the Citizens joint-top of the Premier League table alongside Bolton.
But while Roberto Mancini’s men were widely expected to record a healthy win over their opponents at the Etihad Stadium, Bolton’s 4-0 victory over QPR on the opening day of the season was more of a surprise.
The Hoops conceded just 15 goals at home in the Championship last season and were 5/4 favourites to beat the Trotters, who were on a five-match losing run in the league.
However, Bolton eased home in style at odds of 41/20 for the win, earning punters who bet on this outcome £76.25 if they used the £25 free bet available for joining bwin.
By way of contrast, odds of 8/25 on a victory for Man City last night paid significantly less, although better returns could have been found in the last goalscorer market.
As predicted by news.bwin.com/en/ in Monday afternoon’s Man City v Swansea preview, Sergio Aguero bagged the final goal of the game at odds of 7/2.
Using the £25 free bet, punters could have walked away with £112.50 had they followed this betting tip.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Man Utd against West Brom and Wolves against Blackburn, while Wigan and Norwich, Stoke and Chelsea, Liverpool and Sunderland, Fulham and Aston Villa and Newcastle and Arsenal all drew.
Norwich’s point against Wigan, coupled with QPR’s drubbing, means they are now ahead of Neil Warnock’s side in the relegation betting market, while Blackburn’s defeat means they have slipped to 7/4 fifth-favourites for the drop.
At the other end of the table, Man City’s impressive opening result means they are now joint second-favourites with Chelsea in the title betting market at 3/1, with neighbours Man Utd out in front at 27/20.
But with each team still having 37 games left to play, there is plenty of scope for more changes as the season progresses.
