Arsenal and Tottenham have both endured their share of disappointments of late and the pair aren’t likely to ease the torment for their beleaguered fans this evening.
Both face sides against whom they have a recent history of drum-tight encounters and their fixtures against QPR and Swansea respectively are expected to be decided by a single goal.
The Gunners are 8/15 for victory at Loftus Road, while Spurs are 3/4 to win at home to Swansea.
However, it could prove a shrewder play to back a one-goal margin of success in both fixtures, an outcome that’s 33/20 for QPR v Arsenal and 29/20 in Tottenham’s meeting with the Swans.
A double that covers a triumph for either side in each contest pays out at in excess of 5/1, far outstripping a win double on the north Londoners.
Here’s why the greater reward is worth the greater risk…
All five of Arsenal’s clashes with QPR since the latter returned to the top flight for the first time in a decade have been decided by a single goal.
The history books recount a similar tale of tension when it comes to the Lilywhites’ meetings with Swansea too, with four of their last five renewals decided by the slenderest of margins.
Tottenham are the one-goal margin experts of the quartet, with ten of their 13 league wins and five of their eight top-tier defeats coming by a solitary strike.
And with their fixture arguably the more likely to go either way of the two it’s interesting to note that eight of Swansea’s 11 wins have been 1-0 or 2-1.
That Arsenal v QPR is decided by one goal seems to have less of a basis in current form, yet Rangers very nearly fought back to claim a draw at the Emirates in their most recent meeting, despite being in the midst of a 12-match losing road streak.
