Norwich have completed their sixth signing of an already-busy summer with the acquisition of winger Anthony Pilkington.
Arriving from Huddersfield Town in a deal worth around £2 million, the former Manchester United trainee will compete for a first-team place at Carrow Road alongside fellow new boys Bradley Johnson, Elliott Bennett, Steve Morison, James Vaughan and Ritchie de Laet.
Pilkington’s decision to join the Canaries is rooted in his desire to play in the Premier League, although the 23-year-old realises his new side have their work cut out to stay there longer than a single season.
Norwich are 3/5 to go down in bwin’s relegation betting market, making them second-favourites for the drop.
A successful £25 free bet on the Canaries to finish in the bottom three, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £40.
Nevertheless, the winger is confident that Norwich can extend their top-flight stint as long as they work hard enough.
“It’s great to see the club is on the up and we’ll be fighting tooth and nail to stay in the Premier League,” he confirmed.
Lee Clark, Pilkington’s manager at the Galpharm Stadium, believes his former player has what it takes to play at the top level.
“From his arrival at this club, I stated that he had the potential to play in the Premier League and we knew that this day might come,” he told the Terriers’ website.
“I have a mixture of sadness and pride over his transfer, but I believe he will be a success at Norwich.”
Norwich’s first match in the Premier League since 2005 will be against Wigan at the DW Stadium.
Wigan v Norwich betting with bwin makes the away side 16/5 underdogs to secure all three points.
