You know you’re having an iffy summer in the transfer market if your most exciting potential signing is Nicklas Bendtner, but at least Aston Villa fans are guaranteed some entertainment they do sign the dynamic Dane.
The Villans are 9/2 to go down next season despite already snagging Joe Cole, Philippe Senderos and Kieran Richardson, with Bendtner reportedly also on their agenda.
However, it is not only transfer gossip columns that Bendtner starred in recently, with a certain instagram post kicking off our list of his five greatest moments.
Bendtner the nearly-nude.
Never someone who looks unduly stressed, the Dane demonstrated his enjoyment of the summer weather by posting a picture of himself online with only a carefully-positioned bra protecting his modesty.
Bendtner shows off his pants.
As a player who has always reserved his best for the international stage – he has scored 24 goals in 58 games for Denmark – it was not surprising to see the striker find the net against Portugual in Euro 2012.
What was a bit of a shock was Bendtner’s decision to immediately expose his underpants, an advertising gimmick that earned him a £80,000 fine.
Bendner scores 10 out of nine.
Sadly, these impressive numbers are not related to the Dane’s on the pitch prowess, but instead a confidence test given to the striker during his time at Arsenal.
The 26-year-old’s self-belief is legendary – he claimed he would win the World Cup Golden Boot in 2010 – so it was good to see Arsenal’s testing procedure is in fine order.
Bendtner actually scores some goals.
I bet you didn’t think we’d find any examples of the Dane hitting the mark on the pitch, but his hat-trick against Porto in the Champions League in 2010 demonstrated that the striker is not entirely deluded when it comes to rating his own ability.
The treble was the first scored at the Emirates in European competitions and helped Arsenal to a 5-0 win that overturned a first-leg deficit.
Bendtner returns as the last Samurai.
After a couple of seasons spent on loan, Arsene Wenger recalled Bendtner to the Gunners’ first-team squad last season, with the Dane repaying that faith by bagging two goals in 12 appearances in all competitions.
It was, however, the striker’s hair-do that created more headlines, with Bendtner sporting a Tom Cruise-esque beard and ponytail combo.
