It’s been a 10-game Premier League season of few highs for Michael Laudrup at Swansea, a continuation of the post-Capital One Cup crash that shrouded their end of season form last season.
With Michu now an injury doubt for the next two games according to his manager, and stopper Michel Vorm suspended for the next three, Swansea’s troubles in the league will continue when they host Stoke in their next assignment, a clash the Potters are 37/10 to win.
Michu scored 38 percent of Swansea’s league goals last term
The Welsh side relied heavily on the Spaniard last season, as they would do when the midfielder -cum-striker smacked in 18 of their 47 total league goals – the second highest contribution to a team’s total goal output of the league’s top 10 scorers.
His form demanded he played regularly and he only missed six games in any competition during the campaign. With the player now out through injury and no other squad member bettering his far more disappointing two league strikes this term, the Swans are in for a drought.
Swansea have won just two of their six games following continental clashes
The reward for winning the first League Cup in the club’s history was a ticket to participate in Europe’s second-tier competition.
So far it’s proven to be a distraction to their league form, with three outings ending in defeat following a Europa League jaunt, and one finishing a draw.
It’s a problem that Stoke, the last English side from the division’s middle drawer to compete in the Europa League, experienced in 2011/12 when they struggled to a 14th placed finish. Swansea have one less point than Stoke did after 10 games that season and are yet to win consecutive top-flight outings.
Stoke have won three of their four Premier League tussles with Swansea
To make things worse for Laudrup, his side’s poor run – they are winless in three straight matches – doesn’t look likely to end when the head-to-head with Stoke is considered.
The Swans have only won once against the Potters in their two previous campaigns in the top flight, losing 2-0 in all three of their defeats.
