Manchester City are odds-on favourites to gain three points at home to Sunderland tomorrow (April 3rd).
Roberto Mancini’s side are priced at 9/20 to win in the Eastlands clash and for good reason, as they have picked up 16 of a possible 18 points in their last six home matches.
Furthermore, the Citizens are the season’s joint leaders in terms of shut-outs, having kept a clean sheet on 13 separate occasions.
Carlos Tevez, City’s captain and leading goalscorer, is a doubt for the tie having picked up a groin strain. As a result, Mancini could turn to young Italian Mario Balotelli up front and the hit man is priced at 11/10 to score at any time.
While Balotelli has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late, he has let his feet do the talking on the pitch and is the club’s second top scorer this term with six goals to his name in his debut Premier League season.
Although fourth-placed City are looking to secure Champions League football for next year, and still have an outside chance of catching local rivals Manchester United in the title race, things have not been going their way of late.
They have won just one of their last four outings, which could serve as motivation for Steve Bruce’s ninth-placed Black Cats.
Despite not winning in their last six games, and not scoring in any of the last three, Sunderland could put their European hopes back on track with an unlikely win.
Asamoah Gyan and on-loan Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck played against each other in the midweek international between England and Ghana, but will be looking to team up to down their hosts tomorrow.
Gyan, who scored the equaliser in the Wembley clash, is Sunderland’s top scorer with nine goals this term and is priced at 23/10 to find the back of the net at the City of Manchester Stadium.
However, Welbeck has been in impressive form since his move from Old Trafford and could also be a good bet to put his name on the score sheet.
The young England man is also priced at 23/10 and a £10 bet on the striker to score at any time would return £33.
