After starting the season in rampant fashion, goals have suddenly become hard to come by for Manchester United.
The Red Devils scored 21 goals in their first five matches of the season, averaging more than four goals a game.
But since a 3-1 win over Chelsea on 18th September the goals have dried up, with only nine scored in their subsequent eight league games.
With opponents Villa conceding at least two goals in five of their last six games, Saturday could be the day to bet on the Man Utd attack to splutter back into life and score two goals at odds of 23/10.
Although Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have scored in every one of these matches, a 2-0 win over Norwich is the only time they have scored more than once in a game during this run.
With this in mind, a bet on Manchester United to score fewer than 1.5 goals in their next match against Aston Villa is an obvious choice, although the odds are not particularly tempting at 19/20.
Similarly, betting on there being fewer than 2.5 goals in the game – as there have been in all four of United’s league games since their 6-1 loss to City – is hardly likely to make punters rich at odds of 91/100.
One way around this would be to bet on Man Utd to score exactly one goal in the match – as they have in seven of their last eight fixtures – at odds of 39/20.
But with opponents Villa conceding at least two goals in five of their last six games, Saturday could be the day to bet on the Man Utd attack to splutter back into life and score two goals at odds of 23/10.
At the other end, United’s attacking woes have at least been offset by a newfound defensive solidity.
Since their 6-1 defeat to neighbours City in the Manchester derby, the Red Devils have kept clean sheets in three of their four subsequent games – and would have done in all four had Newcastle not converted a dubious penalty at Old Trafford last week.
It should also be noted that Villa have failed to score in their last two matches, and with this in mind a United win to nil looks well priced at 9/5.
A successful £25 free bet on this outcome is set to return £70, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
But the best bet could be on United to revert to recent type and win with under 2.5 goals, which is available at the longer odds of 31/10.
At this price, a successful £25 free bet would return £77.50, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
Finally, in the 3Way football betting market, Aston Villa are priced at 4/1 for the win, with a draw at 5/2 and an away success available at 7/10.
