Odds on both Manchester United and Manchester City to win the Premier League title have been cut following the two clubs’ handsome wins over the weekend.
Going into the third weekend of Premier League fixtures, Man Utd were 27/20 favourites to retain their title crown.
Meanwhile, neighbours Man City were joint-second favourites with Chelsea to win the championship at 3/1.
However, Manchester United’s 8-2 mauling of Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday means they are now 11/10 to top the league standings at the end of the season.
This means that a successful £25 free bet on Man Utd to win the title, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £52.50.
Similarly, Manchester City’s 5-1 win over Spurs at the weekend means their title odds now stand at 2/1.
As such, the same £25 free bet on Man City to finish first would earn punters £75 if it came off.
The news is not so good for Chelsea and Arsenal, with both sides’ odds having been lengthened following the weekend action.
The Blues, who beat Norwich 3-1 on Saturday, are now 9/2 to top the season-ending standings, while Arsenal, 6/1 shots in June, are now 25/1 outsiders in the race.
Indeed, Arsene Wenger’s side now face an uphill battle to even qualify for the Champions League, with Liverpool moving ahead of them in the top four football betting market.
However, Wenger will be hoping that a flurry of transfer activity over the next day and a half will boost his side’s chances of making it into European football’s elite club competition for the 2012-13 season.
