Manchester City’s title odds have been cut to 17/10 after rivals Manchester United’s slip-up against Everton on Sunday.
The Citizens were five points adrift of the Red Devils going into this weekend’s round of matches and 9/2 outsiders to finish first, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side 3/20 favourites to win the league.
However, a late double from Everton secured the Toffees a shock 4-4 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.
With Roberto Mancini’s men subsequently beating Wolves 2-0 at Molineux – a result which relegated the Old Gold – the gap at the top has been narrowed to just three points.
Although the Red Devils remain odds-on favourites at 9/20 to secure a second successive league crown, Ferguson’s bum will be starting to squeak.
Significantly, this means that a victory for Man City against Man Utd in the Manchester derby next Monday would be enough to move the Citizens to the Premier League summit on goal difference with just two games left to play.
As such, Man City’s title odds have moved in while United’s have drifted.

“We’ve given Manchester City the initiative. It makes the game at the Etihad a really important game, it’s a decider really,” the Scot commented.
“We’ve made it hard for ourselves as we normally do, but we have to go there knowing that we are capable of getting a result.”
Nevertheless, with City 23/20 favourites to take all three points from the derby at the Etihad stadium next Monday, it could yet be worth having a punt on the Citizens winning the title.
