Expect Aston Villa’s unbeaten start to be brutally ended when Alex McLeish’s side visit the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City on Saturday.
The Villans have recorded two wins and five draws from their opening seven games of the Premier League campaign, making them one of the four teams yet to have tasted defeat this season.
Unfortunately for Villa, the Citizens are one of the other three unbeaten teams and look by far the better bets to hold on to their undefeated record.
Having avoided all of the teams expected to be challenging for a Champions League place at the end of the season, Villa’s opening run of fixtures has been kind to say the least.
Although City have been similarly untested save for a trip to Tottenham to take on a side shorn of key players Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor, the manner in which they have dealt with their opponents contrasts starkly with the approach taken by McLeish’s men.
While Villa have been eking out draws and narrow victories, City have scored three or more goals in five out of their seven matches on their way to six wins and a draw.
And as this attacking potency is married with defensive solidity – they have yet to concede at home in the league so far this season – the Citizens look good for a win to nil at odds of 6/5.
Even if Villa do score, it is unlikely to change the outcome of the game given their past history at Eastlands.
The Birmingham side have lost their last five games at the Etihad Stadium, with City heavy 17/50 favourites to continue their winning streak against their opponents on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a Villa win is priced at 31/4 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market and a draw at 15/4.
Worryingly for Villa fans, history not only points to a Man City win but a comprehensive one at that.
City have put three or more past them in their last three meetings in Manchester, making a 3-0 win for Roberto Mancini’s men at the final whistle a real tempter at 15/2.
