Manchester City host Everton in Saturday’s tea time kick-off with striker Sergio Aguero operating at a level of inspiration that will have the visitors quaking in their monogrammed, multicoloured boots.
The former Atletico Madrid hitman has struck seven times in his last five outings against defences as diverse as FC Bayern Munchen and Queens Park Rangers and he’s a mere 7/10 to pierce the visiting rearguard at the Etihad.
That he will do seems relatively assured as he notched both home and away as the Citizens shrugged off their historic struggles against the Goodison Park outfit to do the double over them last season.
Everton are a side in defensive downgrade too, already more than halfway to their total goals-against for last season just 14 outings into this 38-game campaign.
Yet, with both an Aguero goal and the City win (53/100) so short, there are better ways to profit from his purple patch than simply backing him to score…
Needless to say if any firm were laying odds on Sylvain Distin being carried back to the Everton bus in a straightjacket by a team of burley orderlies after the match, jabbering like a madman, then anything north of evens would be value.
However, in the absence of any such quotes, the 5/4 about the Argentine bagging in a City win looks a good place to start.
At 4/1, betting that Aguero scores twice or more also hold great appeal, given he’s not stopped at one on four of the last six occasions in which he’s found the net for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
Then there’s the old first or last goalscorer conundrum.
Both eventualities are rated 11/4 shots and both may indeed cop, but the stocky superstar has broken the deadlock in eight of the last ten fixtures in which he’s scored.
For those who don’t foresee an Aguero-inspired home win, Everton are as long as 5/1 to halt the Citizens’ four-match winning streak, while the draw is priced up at 7/2.
