The betting on Tottenham’s next permanent manger appears to have been blown wide open, with various news outlets reporting that long-time favourite Mauricio Pochettino is set to ‘snub’ White Hart Lane.
Yet with a dearth of information forthcoming on the likely alternatives the Argentinian remains favourite for the role at just 11/20.
As a result there’s some excellent prices out there to be had about the other names in the frame.
While the likes of Diego Simeone and Rudi Garcia remain fancifully assessed even at 100/1 and 50/1 respectively, some of the managers at more promising prices have the distinct whiff of value about them.
Ajax supremo Frank de Boer, for instance, has been linked with the vacancy ever since the hasty dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas.
Having just wrapped up a fourth consecutive Eredivisie title with Ajax his stock has never been higher and his 2/1 odds are all the more appealing when it’s considered the only man inside him in the betting has distanced himself from the job.
However, the Dutchman has poured cold water on his prospects by suggesting, within the last 24 hours, that he has yet to hear from the Lilywhites on the matter.
Indeed it’s perhaps two proven Premier League managers currently ensconced in Naples and Istanbul respectively that look the pick of the market just now.
Rafa Benitez and Roberto Mancini at 7/1 and 14/1 respectively both seem conspicuously close to the head of the betting and neither would need time to adapt to the rigours of English football.
The former Manchester City manager in particular is no fanciful wager, with the Metro reporting the Italian to be ‘keen’ on replacing Tim Sherwood back in February.
Mancini would certainly welcome the chance to work with Christian Eriksen at White Hart Lane, having tried unsuccessfully to recruit the playmaker during his tenure at the Etihad.
