Manchester City might have come back from 3-1 down to salvage a point against Sunderland at the weekend but the jury is out on whether they can recover a potential five-point deficit to Manchester United and win the title.
The Red Devils are two points clear of their rivals at the top of the table going into their match against Blackburn this evening, meaning they would hold a five point advantage if they win their game in hand at Ewood Park.
Crucially, a five-point advantage means that United could win the title regardless of the result of the Manchester derby on April 30th, when City will have home advantage.
And with United 2/5 favourites to beat relegation battlers Rovers in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, the reigning champions are as short as 17/100 to secure their 13th Premier League crown and 20th top flight championship.
This leaves City, whose next game is away to Arsenal at the Emirates, as 4/1 shots to win their first title since 1968.
Mancini: I think on Monday, United will probably do a draw. Eight games is enough to do two draws. United can arrive in a difficult moment.
New customers to bwin can claim a £25 free bet and, at odds of 4/1, using this to bet on a Man City title success will return £125 if the Citizens pull off another successful comeback.
Crucially, City boss Roberto Mancini has not given up hope and has predicted United will drop points at Ewood Park this evening.
“It is hard but we have another seven games,” Mancini said.
“Before the derby [on 30 April] it is important we recover two points.
“I think on Monday, United will probably do a draw. Eight games is enough to do two draws. United can arrive in a difficult moment.”
The omens certainly look good – Blackburn won the reverse fixture at Old Trafford and three of the last four games between the two at Ewood Park have ended in a draw.
With this in mind, the title race looks to have more twists and turns than odds of 17/100 on United winning the championship suggest.
