Luis Suarez is still odds-on to join Real Madrid this summer even though Liverpool have offered the Uruguay star an ultimatum – put in a transfer request or put a sock in it.
Suarez is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup in Brazil and scored a wonder free-kick in his country’s 2-1 defeat to Spain on Sunday night.
Yet despite him stating last week he was only concentrating on playing for Uruguay and “was not here to push for a move”, the majority of his public assertions have resembled just that.
Over the last few weeks Suarez, currently serving a ten-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, has tried to blame the media coverage in England for his intended departure, before going on to make eyes at Los Blancos.
“Obviously Real Madrid is a great team and every player dreams about them,” he said.
“Real Madrid is Real Madrid and it’s as high as you can go as a player and they will always tempt you… every player wants to reach the very top and Real Madrid are at the very top.”
But now Liverpool, tired of Suarez mouthing off about a move to the Spanish capital, have reportedly told him to put up or shut up.
Anfield officials have decided that the former Ajax man, who hit 31 goals for the club last season, will only be allowed to leave this summer if he hands in a written transfer request, and even then only if their £50 million valuation is met.
With Suarez having signed a new four-year contract just last summer, Liverpool are negotiating from a position of strength but that hasn’t stopped bwin making Madrid just 7/20 to sign the Anfield No.7 this summer.
Suarez is 8/5 to remain a Liverpool player beyond September 1st, while it is 16/1 and bigger for him to sign for any other side in this transfer window.
