If Liverpool maverick Luis Suarez gets his way in January, then he’ll be leaving Merseyside for Madrid – according to Edison Cavani.
Suarez has returned with a bang for the Reds following his 10-match suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, scoring two in two games.
The former Ajax striker was part of an ongoing transfer saga this summer as he reportedly wanted a move away in order to play Champions League football, with Arsenal submitting a £40million plus £1 bid.
However, Liverpool refused to do business with their league rivals.
Cavani has a strong relationship with Suarez
There seems a very strong chance when the January transfer window opens that the controversial yet richly talented talisman will be sniffing for a move to Madrid – a view backed up by Cavani, who made a big money switch of his own in the summer from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain.
Cavani said: “I think Arsenal was not Luis’s dream move, maybe if it had been Real Madrid then it would have been a different outcome – but of course Madrid were concentrating on a different target this summer.”
Suarez would be eligible for the Champions League
Due to Liverpool’s absence from European competitions this season, Suarez would be free to be registered for Madrid’s Champions League squad, which may be the deciding factor in the Spanish giants decision to match Liverpool’s reported £55million price tag.
On current form Suarez is one of the top five strikers in world football
Over the last two season’s the Uruguayan has taken his game to another level and would fit seamlessly into the explosive style of football that Real Madrid play under Carlo Ancelotti.
A front three of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Suarez would be a frightening prospect and one that would trigger many punters to take Madrid’s Champions League pedigree very seriously at 5/1.
