Brendan Rodgers may have been in the mix for manager of the season, but since confirming their Premier League survival Swansea City have endured the kind of end-of-season dip in form not seen since the glory days of Alan Curbishley and Charlton Athletic.
Since winning 3-0 away at Fulham on March 17th, the Swans have picked up just five points from a possible 24.
But while the visit of an out-of-sorts Liverpool team under the permanently bewildered Kenny Dalglish may not offer the sternest of tests, the Reds’ visit to the Liberty Stadium could see the Swans get their wings clipped once again.
After all, Liverpool have enjoyed a minor return to form of late, having won their last two on the road in the Premier League and they could find another trip away from the pressure cauldron of Anfield a blessing in disguise.
Carroll could be another one to watch, with the lanky striker enjoying arguably his finest form in a Liverpool shirt over the last few weeks.
The omens certainly look good for their £50 million-plus striking duo Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, too, with the pair appearing to be picking up form at the tail end of this season.
Last time out on the road, Suarez took centre stage against Norwich City with a stellar performance and a hat trick for the Merseysiders.
Bwin certainly rate the chances of the Uruguayan adding to his tally of 11 goals in the league, with Suarez priced at 9/2 to open the scoring here.
However, for my money the 25-year-old could be one to watch for two or more goals at the Liberty Stadium given Swansea’s recent defensive woes.
Rodgers’ men have conceded 17 goals in their last eight league games, with two or more goals shipped in six of these encounters. Backing Suarez to grab two or more to end the season with a bang could therefore make for a good bet at odds of 11/2.
Meanwhile, Carroll could be another one to watch, with the lanky striker enjoying arguably his finest form in a Liverpool shirt over the last few weeks.
This makes his 3/2 for an anytime goal a decent shout.
The Geordie has also benefitted from time away from Anfield, with three goals in Liverpool’s last four matches in all competitions away from Merseyside.
On each occasion Carroll scored the final goal of the game in a mixture of winners and consolation strikes that makes odds of 11/2 on the not-so-divine ponytail having the final word here all the more tempting.
Despite their form though, Swansea also offer their fair share of potential goalscorers, having notched up eight goals in their last four league games.
Nathan Dyer could be among those to watch, coming into this game having scored in Swansea’s last two league matches at home.
He is available at the not-too-shabby price of 4/1 to grab one at anytime during this encounter.
Elsewhere, loan star Gylfi Sigurdsson could be backed for a goal given the Icelandic star’s penchant for spectacular efforts. The 22-year-old has scored seven goals in 16 league games and will be eager to finish the campaign on a high as he seeks a move to the Premier League, with odds of 2/1 on an anytime strike.
But with pride on the line this Sunday, Liverpool will be hoping their mega-money duo finally pay back some of their price tag.
Recommended bet: Andy Carroll to score the last goal of the game @ 11/2
Outside punt: Luis Suarez to score two or more goals @ 11/2
Long shot: Nathan Dyer to score anytime @ 4/1
