Tony Pulis suggested after West Brom’s draw with Everton on a recent Monday Night Football that he would be looking to bring in some new faces before the closing of the January transfer window.
Callum McManaman has already arrived from Wigan, but don’t expect that to be anywhere near enough for Pulis.
The recently-appointed manager made four permanent signings and brought Tom Ince in on loan on deadline day at Crystal Palace last season and although the current Baggies squad isn’t short of quality to the same degree, reinforcements are required.
It is certainly a surprise to see West Brom down at 20/1 to make the most signings on deadline day, with Swansea, QPR and Leicester the co-favourites in this market at 5/1.
There are three players being heavily linked with a switch to the Hawthorns.
Darren Fletcher looks free to move on Manchester United and seemed nailed on to join West Ham until that deal fell through.
A West Brom move would make more sense though for Fletcher as he could easily commute from his house in Cheshire.
Joleon Lescott has been trialled at left-back by Pulis for recent games, but this is certainly not his natural position. Neil Taylor would be a better fit from Swansea.
Meanwhile, central defender Craig Dawson is the Baggies’ second highest Premier League scorer this season with two goals and so another striker to support Saido Berahino would be welcome.
Carlton Cole has hardly been known in his career as a regular goal scorer, but he is said to be a big target nonetheless.
