West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho has been on a one-man mission to restore the reputation of Ligue 2 so tarnished by Arsenal donkey Yaya Sanogo.
His six goals in seven showings for the Irons have played an enormous part in their rise to fourth place.
With Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa, two of the three lowest scorers in the league set to face off in Monday night combat Sakho’s success got news.bwin.com/en/ wondering whether the French second tier could be of assistance again in January.
The R’s are 7/5 favourites for victory, while the draw and a Villans win are both priced up at 11/5.
In a game that the formbook suggests is sure to be nip-tuck, a prolific marksman from the hotbed that bred West Ham’s new goal-hero could make all the difference.
Here’s a likely lad for both clubs’ winter-window shopping lists…
Mana Dembele – Nancy
A strong 2012/13 season at Clermont in which he notched 13 times in 36 starts saw him called up to the Mali side for the African Cup of Nations.
Having started the following campaign in similarly good order he was bought by Ligue 1 Guingamp in January this year, but having found playing time hard to come by he was loaned to Nancy at the beginning of this term.
After three outings for the north-eastern outfit, the 25-year-old exploded onto the scene in September with a four-goal salvo against Chateauroux, earning himself instant hero status at Stade Marcel Picot.
He’s bagged seven times in six starts for his temporary employers in total this term and, at around £1m could prove a useful acquisition for either goal-starved top-flight basement dweller.
