This season has not exactly gone to plan for Andre Villas-Boas and his Chelsea side as they have struggled to find top form in what many see as a changing of the guard in terms of players at Stamford Bridge.
And the player who has epitomised this generational shift in west London better than any other is Frank Lampard.
Only a few weeks ago there was talk about Lampard’s 11-year Blues career coming to an abrupt end in the current transfer window, but in recent games the England international has been an influential and regular starter.
Lampard has now scored in three straight matches to help Chelsea to wins over Wolves, Portsmouth and Sunderland which have kept his side within touching distance of the league leaders Man City.
These three goals have also put Lampard on nine goals for the season, making him the joint top scorer for Chelsea alongside Daniel Sturridge.
Lampard is 6/1 third favourite to score the final goal of the game against Norwich. The Chelsea number eight has grabbed the last goal in each of the previous three games so it would seem a reasonably sensible place to put your money.
Given his incredible goal record for Chelsea over the years, odds of 17/10 on Lampard scoring for a fourth game in a row on Saturday seem extremely generous.
New customers to bwin using their free £25 bet for registering on Lampard to score will see returns of £67.50 if the former West Ham midfielder obliges with a goal at Carrow Road.
Even better odds can be found in the last goal scorer market, where Lampard is 6/1 third favourite to score the final goal of the game against Norwich.
The Chelsea number eight has grabbed the last goal in each of the previous three games so it would seem a reasonably sensible place to put your money.
If Lampard fails to find the back of the net, then Villas-Boas will be looking towards Sturridge to produce the goals.
The England forward hasn’t started since the 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa due to a niggling knee complaint but could be in line for a return on Saturday and at 11/10, he is a strong bet to add to his tally.
Norwich may be the home side on Saturday, but considering that they haven’t beaten Chelsea since 1994, it’s little surprise that the Canaries are long odds at 17/4 to win.
Despite the odds being against them to get a result, boss Paul Lambert will be confident that his side can at least breach the Chelsea defence, just as they did at Stamford Bridge in August.
Club captain Grant Holt was the man who scored on that occasion and bwin has priced him at 9/4 to add to his current tally of seven league goals.
The most likely source of goals for Norwich, though, will be Steve Morison. The former Stevenage striker is the club’s top scorer and like Lampard has scored in each of the last three fixtures, including a 4-1 rout of Burnley in the FA Cup.
Morison is fairly priced at 2/1 to score at any time, but for a larger return, bet on midfielder Andrew Surman scoring for the third game in succession – assuming he survives the latest episode in Lambert’s fondness for rotation – at odds of 5/1.
