Blackburn boss Steve Kean has insisted that the sale of star defender Christopher Samba is not inevitable despite interest from Arsenal.
The Gunners have long been linked with the centre-back as they seek to shore up a leaky defence, and those looking for Arsenal bets would surely consider odds of 6/1 for the title in a different light if Samba moved to the Emirates.
A successful £25 free bet on them to finish first at these odds, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £175.
However, Kean has warned Arsene Wenger that buying the 27-year-old will not be easy.
In an interview with TalkSport, the Scot pointed to the length of Samba’s contract and the desire of Blackburn to hang onto their best players as reasons why the player would not necessarily be leaving Ewood Park.
He also claimed that the situation with Samba was different to the one which led to the departure of Phil Jones to Manchester United earlier this month.
“We don’t have to sell [Samba],” he told the news provider.
“He signed a five-year contract in the last window. He’s one of the players we would like keep. It was difficult with Phil because he got the opportunity to go to Manchester United and he wanted to play Champions League football now and we’re not there yet.”
Kean went on to state his ambition to lead Blackburn back into the Champions League.
“I’m sure we will be in the next three or four seasons,” he commented.
However, given Blackburn’s relegation odds of 3/1 Kean might do well to focus on keeping his side away from the bottom three rather than plan a European campaign.
Should customers choose to use their £25 free bet for a successful wager on Blackburn to finish the season in the relegation zone they would win £100.
