Few fans of either Wolves or Tottenham would have envisaged the side from the Black Country coming into this match seven points clear of the Londoners.
Yet despite their disappointing start to the season, Spurs will fancy their chances of claiming a first win of the season at Molineux, and while it might not seem the most exciting bet in the world, backing Jermain Defoe to score first could well be a shrewd investment.
With Rafael van der Vaart injured and Peter Crouch departed for Stoke, Defoe is likely to start the match alongside Emmanuel Adebayor and throughout his career the diminutive England striker has always thrived when paired with a bigger forward.
Defoe has a decent record against Wolves, having netted three goals in his last four appearances against them, and will feel that the match provides an excellent opportunity to open his account. For those who feel cautious, the 2/1 offered for him to score at any time in the game could provide a safety net, but 7/1 for him to be the first scorer looks like good value and worth backing.

Other Spurs players offered in the first scorer market include Adebayor at 6/1 and the former Arsenal striker is a tempting option when you consider that he scored on his debut for the Gunners and Manchester City, while also netting on his home debut for Real Madrid while on loan in Spain back in February.
Tom Huddlestone, meanwhile, is a 22/1 shot to score first. He always offers a goal threat given his fierce right-foot shot and has been told by boss Harry Redknapp to up his goal return from midfield, meaning we could see plenty of attempts from distance.
Wolves, for their part, have already been in decent scoring form this season, managing eight in the four matches they have played so far. Matt Jarvis was arguably their most impressive player last season and will be looking to continue his development at the highest level.
He is already off the mark for the new campaign goal-wise and the 11/1 offered for him to open the scoring is tempting for those looking to back Mick McCarthy’s side.
Other options include strike duo Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher, who are available at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively to break the deadlock at Molineux.
