Are Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea about to miss out on Robert Lewandowski?
It seems so after Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp ruled out selling the player in the current transfer window – but admitted that the Poland international is set to join Bayern Munich for free next summer.
Lewandowski has risen to prominence over the last three years at Dortmund, where the 24-year-old has scored 75 goals in 139 games for Klopp’s side, winning two Bundesliga titles and a German Cup.
With just one year left on his contract and with plenty of suitors, it had seemed that the Pole would be on his way this summer.
But Klopp has reiterated that Lewandowski will not be sold before the new campaign, even if it means that Dortmund’s No.9 will be able to leave for free next summer, when he will join rivals Bayern Munich.
“I think it is a known fact that Robert is going to play for Bayern after the upcoming season,” Klopp said.
“Now the only question is how to shape the time until then. That is our concern and it is our commitment to our fans and members to ensure that we will have a more competitive team in the upcoming season.
“Up to a certain point we were with Robert’s desire for change and were ready to talk. But nothing happened so we had to eventually say: ‘[A sale] now no longer works for us’.
“And now we want to prove that, with a quality player like Robert, we can be successful in the coming year. Our results in the coming season is what we’re all about. I know that Robert and I see it the same way.”
Despite these comments, it is still just 1/2 that Lewandowski remains at the Westfalenstadion after September 3rd. Bayern are 5/2 to persuade Dortmund to sell their star striker this summer.
The news is a blow for the Premier League trio, who were hoping to bring the Pole to England and bwin now go 4/1 he signs for Manchester City, 5/1 for United and 7/1 on Chelsea.
Lewandowski is 11/1 and bigger to sign for other clubs.
