Eden Hazard will join Chelsea after spurning the advances of Manchester United and Manchester City.
The Lille playmaker announced that he has agreed a deal with the Blues and now looks set to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
Although official confirmation is yet to emerge from either club, reports in Belgium suggest that he has signed a five-year contract worth about £100,000 per week after tax.
Hazard had long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with the Manchester giants previously thought to be the front-runners for his much-coveted signature.
However, Chelsea have stolen a march on their rivals to add the exciting Belgian, who scored 20 goals in 38 Ligue 1 games last season, to their star-studded squad.
He said on Twitter: “I’m signing for the Champions League winner.”
Hazard had set tongues wagging earlier on Monday morning by revealing that he had made up his mind about which club he wants to turn out for next season.
Tottenham striker Louis Saha then used his account on the social networking platform to suggest that the 21-year-old was “apparently on his way to Chelsea”.
Hazard’s signing is a major statement of intent by Blues owner Roman Abramovich, who has already wrapped up a deal for Werder Bremen winger Marko Marin, while a big-money move for Porto’s Brazilian striker Hulk is also reportedly on the cards.
Their early transfer activity – along with releasing the likes of Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Jose Bosingwa – suggests Chelsea are determined to rebuild and mount a genuine assault on the Premier League title next term.
Roberto di Matteo’s men, who finished a disappointing sixth this season, are rated as 9/2 third-favourites to finish top of the pile in 2012/13.
In other words, punters who use their free £25 bet for registering with bwin to back Chelsea to win the Premier League will pocket £137.50 if the Blues do reclaim a trophy they last won in 2010.
Blues fans will now be looking forward to seeing Hazard in action as he is likely to be involved for Belgium as they face England at Wembley on Saturday.
