Most Liverpool supporters will already be aware that three French hens and the three wise men are a part of Christmas past.
However, there are reasons to believe that they will be celebrating lots of other threes in the Christmas future when travelling to Burnley for their Boxing Day clash.
Boxing Day hasn’t been especially joyous to the Reds in the past, with no victory since 2011, while they have been beaten on the road in each of the last two years at Stoke and Manchester City.
This is one three that won’t be emulated though, with Liverpool looking a solid bet at 5/6 to secure victory at Turf Moor and take a first Premier League three points in four outings.
But not only should the Liverpool success be backed, but also that the win will be gained with three goals scored.
Brendan Rodgers has already watched his team score three times in away victories at the Premier League’s other promoted clubs, pouncing late to beat QPR 3-2 and leaving Leicester with a 3-1 triumph.
Meanwhile, they put three past current Championship table-toppers Bournemouth last week in the Capital One Cup.
Interestingly, in all of Liverpool’s eight Premier League away fixtures this season at least one of the teams have netted three times.
It is 11/4 that Liverpool score three or more at Burnley, with Sean Dyche’s men already conceding this many when hosting Chelsea, West Ham and Everton this season.
They have only kept clean sheets in two of their past 12 Premier League fixtures too.
Rodgers is unlikely to change from his new 3-4-2-1 formation for this one and Raheem Sterling has been chosen to lead the line, given that he is more likely than Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli to run in behind and he is keener to press the opposition in possession.
Bearing this in mind, 5/2 is a generous price that Sterling is on target in a Liverpool victory.
