As the snow begins to fall, the cars begin to ice over and your cat starts to demand brandy in its milk, we here at bwin are going to try to warm up by watching Premier League goals, predicting that they will come in Manchester City v Fulham, Wigan Athletic v Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United.
Last week’s treble was nipped in the bud fairly early thanks to the bizarre goalless draw between QPR and Tottenham, which was the very first Spurs away game this season that has not seen three or more goals scored.
Sometimes you cannot make allowances for results completely against form like that, but fingers, toes and eyes are crossed for this week’s treble, with many of this season’s top scorers and conceders featuring.
Should you agree with these selections and want to back us, then why not place the free £20 bet you get for signing up to bwin today on this threesome to give yourself a chance of winning just shy of £96?
Over 2.5 goals in Manchester City v Fulham @ 12/25
Surely this one will be a gimme, with Fulham having had the joint-most games featuring over 2.5 goals in the Premier League this season (alongside Manchester United) and City capable of scoring three or more themselves against an out-of-form Cottagers defence.
Roberto Mancini masterminded his side’s 2-0 win at Arsenal last weekend and with the firepower of Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez at his disposal, the away side will do incredibly well to keep their sheet clean in Manchester.
The champions have scored an impressive 25 times at the Etihad in 11 league outings this season, while Fulham have conceded 23 away from home, as well as scoring a respectable 15 thanks to their own firepower of Dimitar Berbatov, Hugo Rodallega, Bryan Ruiz and Mladen Petric.
Their clash at Craven Cottage back in September ended 2-1 to City after a late Dzeko strike, but I sense there will be even more goals than that this weekend.
Over 2.5 goals in Wigan v Sunderland @ evens
This clash might not jump off the page as a likely goalfest, but trust me, it’s time to lean forward in intrigue and anticipation.
Fifteen of Wigan’s 22 games in the Premier League this season have featured over 2.5 goals, with eight from 11 games at the DW Stadium meeting the required target.
Sunderland have also seen a high proportion of their away games contain three goals or more, with seven from 11, and the Black Cats showed last week in their 3-0 drubbing of West Ham that they are still capable of scoring despite their early-season struggles.
For those reasons, evens is a great price and will hopefully set us up nicely for Sunday’s juicy fixture at White Hart Lane.
Over 2.5 goals in Tottenham v Manchester United @ 31/50
This should be a terrific contest in the late Sunday game, with United and Tottenham both in the top three of teams to feature in games with over 2.5 goals in the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils’ infamous ability to concede goals almost saw them blow a two-goal lead against Liverpool last weekend, but their knack of scoring more than the opposition not only keeps them top of the league, but makes them a favourite in Goals Galore articles.
The reverse fixture was a five-goal thriller, with Spurs coming out on top at Old Trafford, and such will be their determination to do a historic double over the league leaders and keep pressure on Chelsea in the race for third, I think they will be going for all-out attack at the Lane.
United are very capable of scoring more than once with the frighteningly in-form Robin van Persie likely to be joined by Wayne Rooney, so this feels like a perfect game to wrap up this week’s treble.
