Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City on Saturday presented Manchester United with a perfect opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League as they prepare to welcome Fulham.
United host a Cottagers side that have not beaten the current champions in their last four attempts and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will be hoping for more of the same after they dispatched the West London team 5-0 back in December.
Unfortunately for Fulham boss Martin Jol, he has never beaten United during his managerial career in England, drawing two and losing five of the seven fixtures against them.
Having been unable to find the back of the net in United’s 5-0 victory away at Wolves last weekend, Wayne Rooney will be eager to get back among the goals against a side he has put eight past in 17 previous appearances.
Rooney has been in great form in recent weeks having notched 16 goals in his last 16 appearances, while he has managed to find the back of the net five times in his last four appearances against Fulham at Old Trafford.
The forward can be backed at 5/2 to open proceedings, while he is priced at 3/5 to score at any time and he will certainly fancy his chances with United having scored at least two goals against Jol’s side in their last four meetings.
The former Everton man has been in great form in recent weeks having notched 16 goals in his last 16 appearances, while he has managed to find the back of the net five times in his last four appearances against Fulham at Old Trafford.
Another player who has been in impressive form for United since returning from injury is winger Antonio Valencia and the Ecuador international, who managed to get his name on the scoresheet at Molineux, looks attractive at 8/5 to score at any time.
Fulham, however, certainly won’t be any pushovers as they look to end a run of two successive defeats which had been preceded by three straight victories and they certainly can get among the goals this evening.
Captain Danny Murphy has found the back of the net against United five times in his career and the former Liverpool midfielder looks appealing at 11/2 to score at any time.
Midfield partner Clint Dempsey has been in great goalscoring form this season with 12 league goals and the American international is 11/4 to score during the match, while team-mate Pavel Pogrebnyak is 5/2 to score at any time.
With the possibility of opening up a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League, we should be guaranteed goals as Ferguson’s side look to increase the pressure on their neighbours with fixtures slowly running out.
Wayne Rooney to score first @ 5/2 Antonio Valencia to score at any time @ 8/5
