Chelsea may be the favourites ahead of Real Madrid and Arsenal to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, but the unsettled England star’s future might have taken a new twist with the news that Barcelona are reportedly interested in taking the former Everton man to the Camp Nou.
Rooney’s future at United is in some doubt after outgoing manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed at the end of last season that the England international had asked for a transfer from the Premier League champions after being unhappy at either being played out of position or left out altogether of some of the Red Devils’ big games last term.
It has been left to new boss David Moyes, who managed Rooney when he broke through the ranks at Everton, to decide what to do with the unsettled striker, with plenty of interest from home and abroad.
Up until today, that didn’t seem to include Barcelona, but reports have suggested that the La Liga champions are about to register their intent to sign the forward.
Barca apparently see Rooney as the replacement for David Villa, who looks set to leave the Camp Nou this summer, and are said to be keeping abreast of developments.
But bwin still go 20/1 that United’s No. 10 ends up at the Camp Nou next term – some way behind the 7/2 favourites Chelsea, whose new manager Jose Mourinho has spoken of his admiration for Rooney since taking up the post at Stamford Bridge for a second time.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also publicly stated he would be interested in signing Rooney this summer should he be available, and bwin go 4/1 the Gunners pull off a sensational swoop, the same price as Real Madrid.
Big-spending Paris Saint-Germain are 6/1 to capture the 27 year-old, while Bayern Munich are 18/1.
If you believe that Rooney will remain at United beyond the summer transfer window you can back that eventuality at 4/5, while he is upwards of 33/1 to sign for other clubs.
