Liverpool return to the city of one of their most notorious triumphs tonight when they take on Galatasaray in Istanbul.
The Reds famously beat AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium after being 3-0 down at half-time.
This evening’s match should also have plenty of goals if Liverpool’s pre-season form is anything to go by.
Kenny Dalglish’s side started off with a 4-3 win over Guangdong before beating Malaysia XI 6-3, with both matches taking place in the Far East.
Back in England, Liverpool then lost 3-0 to Hull at the KC Stadium, leading Dalglish to call for an improved performance against Galatasaray.
The Reds go in as 5/4 favourites to win the match at the Turk Telekom Arena, with a draw priced at 23/10.
However, given Liverpool’s obvious defensive problems – they have conceded three goals in each of their last three matches – the Turkish side are attractive 7/4 bets to secure a home win.
A successful £25 free bet on Galatasaray to beat Liverpool, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £68.75.
Away from the results market, odds of 3/5 on both sides to score in the match look tempting, as do odds of 11/5 on there being more than 3.5 goals in the match.
Both of these bets play on the fact that matches involving Liverpool this pre-season have featured plenty of goals, with the last competitive fixture involving the two sides – a 3-2 win for Galatasaray – adding further credence.
