Swansea City haven’t been afforded much of a chance ahead of their trip to trailblazing Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Still, despite the enormous discrepancy in the odds, the struggling south Wales outfit are a worthy double-chance wager, with a string of stats supporting any arguments that says they’ll get at least a point from this trip to north London.
A price of 33/20 about Swansea avoiding defeat here is great value for the following reasons:
Francesco Guidolin’s arrival has sparked a notable improvement in the Swans’ fortunes.
Only the impenetrable defence of Southampton has prevented the Welsh club from claiming a draw or better since the Italian took the reigns.
Were it not for Salomon Rondon’s injury-time equaliser for West Brom, Swansea would’ve won each of his first three matches, but will still be relatively pleased with a haul of eight points from 15 under the former Udinese coach.
They snapped a horrible run against Spurs earlier in the season.
Prior to their 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium, Tottenham had savoured six straight Premier League wins against this foe.
This point came amidst a run of nine losses in 13 defeats.
If they got a draw when in such terrible form, they’re capable of getting one when they’re on-song.
Swansea have a decent record in Sunday games moved to accommodate a Europa League fixture.
They may not have won in ten of these matches, but they’ve avoided defeat in half, including the aforementioned 2-2 tie earlier in the campaign.
Liverpool beat them 1-0 in a rearranged game, though their decisive goal was a penalty.
Spurs may have prevailed the last time Europa League involvement necessitated their fixture’s move to a Sunday, but were fortunate to do so in the sense their winner came in the 89th-minute.
No win in four for the Lilywhites following Europa action.
The first two failures to win in this sequence come with the mitigation that they were against Arsenal and Chelsea, but defeats to chronically out-of-form Newcastle and, most recently, Crystal Palace suggest they’re ripe for an upset this weekend.
