Sir Alex Ferguson has dropped a big hint as to where he believes Arsenal star Samir Nasri will be plying his trade next season.
The midfielder has been the subject of a three-way tug-of-war between the Gunners, Manchester United and Manchester City ever since stalling on the signing of a new contract.
With just one year left to go before his present deal expires, Nasri has been tipped to move on in this transfer window so that the Gunners can recoup a fee.
And while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted he is prepared to hold him to his contract and risk losing him for nothing rather than cashing in now, Ferguson thinks it more likely that Nasri will have moved to another club before the start of the new season.
However, the Scot does not expect to bring in Nasri as a much-needed replacement for Paul Scholes, suggesting Man City are winning the race to sign the Frenchman.
“I don’t think he is coming to United,” Ferguson confirmed.
“That is all I can tell you. I think he has agreed to go somewhere else.”
Concerning Wenger’s assertion that Nasri would be forced to stay regardless of his contract situation, the 69-year-old indicated he wouldn’t be surprised if the Arsenal board took a different view.
“That is his decision,” said Ferguson. “He is the manager.
“If he stands by that decision, it is a brave one. I don’t know if the [Arsenal] directors will enjoy that one but it is possible. Maybe he will have to stay.”
The subject of who Nasri plays for is likely to have an impact on bwin’s football betting market.
Should he move to Man City, the Citizens are likely to be seen as better bets for the title and the same goes for Man Utd.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s title odds of 13/2 are likely to be lengthened should Nasri force through a move.
A successful £25 free bet on Arsenal to finish first in the Premier League, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £187.50.
