Odds on Manchester United winning a 20th top flight title have been shortened from 7/5 to evens following their 3-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday – and Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson says his side are “up for it”.
Three points at White Hart Lane ensured United closed title rivals Manchester City’s gap at the top of the table to two points, with the Citizens having stretched their lead to five points with a 2-0 win over Bolton on Saturday.
Tottenham were seen as a significant obstacle to United’s hopes of retaining their status as champions by Ferguson in the lead-up to the game and, having overcome that particular hurdle, he believes his troops are in an excellent position to finish the job despite still trailing City in the table.
Sir Alex Ferguson: “Today’s performance tells you we’re up for it.”
Significantly, United and City still have to play each other at the Etihad, giving the Red Devils the chance to eradicate a two-point deficit in one stroke.
They also look to have the easier run-in, with Man City being the only team in the top seven United have to play in their remaining 11 league games.
Roberto Mancini’s men, by way of contrast, still have to negotiate the challenges of Chelsea (h), Arsenal (a), Man Utd (h), Newcastle (a) and tricky-looking trips to Stoke and Swansea.

And Ferguson believes a fully fit squad packed with experience could give his side the edge over their noisy neighbours,
“There’s only two points difference [to leaders City] and we’ve been in this situation before,” the 70-year-old commented following the 3-1 win at the Lane.
“We have players coming back from injury. Anderson is back, Tom Cleverley is coming back and Chris Smalling will be back on Thursday.
“Today’s performance tells you we’re up for it.”
With this in mind, United’s title price of evens looks more appealing than City’s at 3/4.
