The loss of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona could impact on the Premier League top goalscorer odds, it has been suggested.
According to Robin van Persie, the understanding he and club captain Fabregas have developed over the last few years has been a crucial factor in the number of goals he has scored.
Put simply, the Dutchman believes Fabregas operates at another level to anyone else at the Emirates, meaning he is quicker to see and execute killer passes which lead to goalscoring opportunities.
With this in mind, Van Persie thinks his chances of being the top scorer in the Premier League this season if Fabregas makes his much-anticipated move to the Nou Camp.
“I think it will be hard [for me if he goes]. He is the first one I look at if he is playing or not,” Van Persie commented.
“We have a connection together, he knows exactly when to pass, when to make his decisions. In his mind, he is quicker than most other players and that is very special.
“He will be a miss for any team, that’s why I hope that he stays and we can play a bit longer together.”
The 27-year-old scored 18 league goals in 25 starts last year, putting him just two behind top-scorers Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov.
With this in mind, Van Persie is 8/1 joint-favourite to win the 2011-12 Barclays Golden Boot alongside Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres and Tevez.
A successful £25 free bet on Van Persie to be the Premier League’s top scorer, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £225.
However, should Fabregas leave then it may be worth looking at the alternatives.
