Arsenal beat Chelsea 5-3 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season, and memories of that incredible day are likely to be fresh in the minds of both teams when they meet again at the Emirates on Saturday.
Robin van Persie is, as always, Arsenal’s main goal threat. He scored a famous hat trick against Chelsea in London in October and he has notched 34 times in all competitions for Arsenal this season.
He has, however, only scored one goal in his last six games, and cut a lonely and frustrated figure against Wigan on Monday night.
Van Persie is 4/1 to score first, 4/1 to score last and 14/1 to score another hat trick.
For those of you who like to think a little more outside the box, you might be interested to know that a defender has scored for Chelsea in all three of their last meetings with Arsenal.
The worry for Arsenal is that aside from Van Persie there aren’t too many other genuine threats to the Chelsea goal, although Theo Walcott could be worth a punt to score at any time having scored in his last two matches against the Blues, with this outcome available at 5/2.
For Chelsea, Frank Lampard has opened the scoring four times this season, including against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, but he has scored the last goal of the game seven times.
That makes odds of 8/1 on Chelsea’s top scorer grabbing the last goal look slightly more favourable than the same odds on him scoring the first.
Lampard is also a good bet to score at any time at 9/4 given his status as Chelsea’s top scorer in the league and with his goal against Spurs in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final still fresh in the memory.
Didier Drogba’s confidence is likely to be high after slaying Barcelona in midweek, and he is priced at 11/2 to score first, 11/2 to score last and 3/2 to score at any time.
However, with the Ivorian likely to be rested in favour of Fernando Torres, it could be worth looking elsewhere.
For those of you who like to think a little more outside the box, you might be interested to know that a defender has scored for Chelsea in all three of their last meetings with Arsenal (Terry, Ivanovic and Alex).
This could tempt some people to take a chance with an anytime goalscorer bet on the likes of Gary Cahill at 7/1, John Terry at 7/1 or Ashley Cole at 11/1.
For those who like to play it safe, however, Frank Lampard could be your man.
