With both teams putting in impressive defensive displays so far this season, punters should expect a low-scoring game between Aston Villa and Newcastle this weekend.
Indeed, while Newcastle fans may be better known for their love of free-scoring number nines, it is largely the capabilities of their back four that has propelled them to eight points out of twelve, an impressive start that has seen them concede only once this season.
And, having opened their campaign with back-to-back away clean sheets for the first time in 110 years, the travelling Geordie fans will be hoping that this run continues into October.
Villa, too, have shown much promise at the back so far this season, with two clean sheets in four games, and Newcastle are well aware of the talent of goalkeeper Shay Given, who has only conceded three goals so far.
With this in mind, new bwin punters should strongly consider using their free £25 bet to back a 0-0 draw at 15/2 and win £212.50 if successful.
Having said that, both teams will feel that they can sneak a winner in an otherwise tightly-contested match. Much has been reported about Newcastle’s lack of firepower upfront, but Leon Best’s ability to hit the target should not be ignored.
Evidently hungry for goals having “quite literally knocked on” Alan Pardew’s door requesting a game, Best has managed eight in his last 14 appearances. His potential to grab a winner means that odds of 3/1 for Newcastle to win should not be overlooked.
Villa will similarly be looking for revenge following a humbling 6-0 defeat to the Toon Army last season and are 9/10 favourites to pick up all three points.
However, with neither side prolific in front of goal – Newcastle have averaged less than one a game this season and Villa’s average is not much better at 1.25 – it is unlikely that Given and his counterpart Tim Krul will be overly troubled.
As such, the best bet could be on there being fewer than two goals at odds of 5/2.
