Liverpool head into their Merseyside derby with fierce rivals Everton as narrow favourites to claim all three points, although their recent away record suggests the Toffees could yet be good value for the win with odds of 2/1.
The Reds have lost their last two league matches without scoring a goal and they are up against an Everton side who have been defeated just once in their last 14 home league games.
Liverpool’s place in the table in relation to Everton also flatters the away side, with the Toffees just three points off the fifth spot held by their rivals with a game in hand.
This suggests the teams are evenly matched but that home advantage will tip the balance in Everton’s favour.
Having said that, this theory is disproved somewhat by Liverpool’s recent record against the Toffees.
Kenny Dalglish’s side have won five of the last ten Merseyside derbies and have beaten Everton at Goodison in three of the last four meetings between the two sides.
It is perhaps because of this that they go into the game with odds of 27/20 for the win in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
Nevertheless, Everton have shown impressive resilience of late – their performance against Man City last week deserved more than a 2-0 defeat – and Liverpool will find it extremely difficult to build on their fine run and secure another away derby win on Saturday.
The best bet therefore looks to be on a draw at 11/5, and with only two of the last ten Merseyside derbies featuring more than two goals, it could be a low-scoring draw at that.
With this in mind a 1-1 draw appears favourable at odds of 19/4.
However, the safest bet could be on there being fewer than three goals in the game for the eighth time in 11 derby fixtures at odds of 7/10.
A successful £25 free bet on there to be under 2.5 goals in the match would return £42.50, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
