Two teams from the opposite ends of the form table meet at Goodison Park on Saturday, with Everton taking on Aston Villa.
While the Toffees are not entirely out of the relegation picture – they are, after all, just ten points ahead of bottom-side Wigan – they have picked up 13 points from a possible 18 in their last six games.
This suggests David Moyes is more likely to be looking to cement a position in the top eight than looking nervously over his shoulder.
The same could not be said for Gerard Houllier, whose Aston Villa side are eighth-favourites to go down at 27/4.
The Frenchman will be hoping the likes of Ashley Young, Stewart Downing and Darren Bent replicate the form they showed while on international duty with England and earn a much-needed win for their club side.
Young is under particular pressure to display the same attacking intent he demonstrated against Wales and Ghana and carry a goalscoring threat on Merseyside.
The 25-year-old is Villa’s joint-top scorer with six goals this season, although given the fact he has played just off the striker rather than as a winger for much of this campaign he could reasonably be expected to have weighed in with a few more.
Nevertheless, he showed signs of greater potency while wearing the white of England and is priced at 23/10 to score against Everton.
A successful £10 bet on Young to score against the Toffees at bwin would return £33.
However, with only Blackburn having conceded more goals away from home than Aston Villa, their problem looks to be in defence rather than in attack.
This is likely to be exposed at Goodison, with Everton having scored at least two goals in all but one of their last six matches at home.
And with recent head-to-head history suggesting the game is unlikely to be settled by more than one goal either way – the last match between Everton and Villa in which one of the sides won by more than a goal was in September 2007 – a 2-1 home win looks a good bet at 15/2.
A £10 stake on Everton to beat Aston Villa 2-1 would return £85. New customers can register here to receive a £25 free bet.
