The manic market for next Everton boss includes Atletico Madrid’s two-time Champions League runner-up Diego Simeone as a top-price 22/1 outsider with bwin, but after the Argentine suggested his Vicente Calderon tenure may be over following the penalties loss to Real Madrid, some Toffees fans allowed themselves to dream.

With four-time Eredivisie winning manager Frank de Boer heading the market at 9/4, and former Manchester City chief Manuel Pellegrini, Sevilla’s three-time Europa League winner Unai Emery and Southampton’s Ronald Koeman all prominent, there’s reason for optimism at Goodison Park.
New co-owner Farhad Moshiri, net worth almost $2bn according to Wikipedia, is in situ alongside old Evertonian Bill Kenwright, and the Premier League’s glut of TV cash means there’s no chance the pair will be able to plead frugality.
Arguments for Simeone moving to Goodison have evolved from the fact that most of the top jobs are taken, certainly in the uber-lucrative Premier League, so the vacancy left by sacked boss Roberto Martinez should be seen as the next best big opportunity.
The English top flight now boasts the most exciting talent pool of managers anywhere, with Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp, Antonio Conte, Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino, among others, set to battle for divisional supremacy next term. Simeone would fit right in.
Will that be enough to tempt ‘El Cholo’ to Merseyside? Stranger things have happened (but probably not).
