Arguably the most anticipated friendly of the summer takes place in the early hours of tomorrow morning as Manchester United encounter Barcelona in Washington DC.
The FedExField will host the first clash between the two sides since the final of the Champions League in May, which saw Barcelona emerge 3-1 winners.
Given the friendly status of the game, a win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will do nothing to null the pain of their recent defeat.
Similarly, a Barcelona victory would not act as a precursor to continuing European dominance.
Even so, pride is at stake and neither team will want to end up on the losing side, with bwin’s 3Way football betting market suggesting the game will be evenly contested.
As would be expected of the European champions, Barcelona are the slight favourites to win at odds of 6/5, with a United success priced at 19/10 and a draw available at 51/20.
However, Man Utd’s form going into the match and the absence of Barca stars Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez, both still recovering from their Copa America excursions, suggest the Red Devils could yet emerge victorious.
United have played four games in the US so far this summer, winning them all and scoring 18 goals in the process.
Such attacking potency indicates there will be plenty of attacking action, with odds of 7/4 on there being at least four goals in the match looking tempting.
Barcelona’s form has been less auspicious, although a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich earlier this week indicates they are approaching their best.
If this proves to be the case then there is no team on the planet who can cope with the Catalan giants, and the game will surely go the way of the Champions League final.
With this in mind, punters could take advantage of the odds of 21/4 being offered on a draw/Barca win in the half-time/full-time results market.
A successful £25 free bet on Barca to win the match after being all-square with Man Utd at the interval, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £156.25.
This would echo the match at Wembley earlier this year, when the sides were level at the break before goals from Messi and David Villa secured the cup for Barca.
