Owen Coyle has revealed he is in talks with new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas about the possibility of bringing Daniel Sturridge back to Bolton.
The striker had a successful loan spell at the Reebok Stadium last term, scoring eight goals in 13 appearances for the Trotters after joining during the January transfer window.
Bolton boss Coyle is keen to bring the England U21 star back to the north-west, although he acknowledges the need for Villas-Boas to assess his options before making a decision.
The Portuguese has plenty of attacking talent at his disposal at Stamford Bridge, with £50 million man Fernando Torres competing with Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Nicolas Anelka for a place in the starting XI.
With rumours still circulating about a possible move for Porto striker Falcao, Sturridge’s best option could be to continue his development at Bolton for another year before attempting to force his way into the Chelsea line-up.
Should he reunite with Coyle, Sturridge would be a good bet for the Barclays Golden Boot at odds of 40/1 with bwin.
Given his strike-rate in the second half of last season, he would have scored 23 goals had he played throughout the campaign.
This would have made him top scorer in the league by three goals from nearest challengers Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez.
A successful £25 free bet on Sturridge to win the Barclays Golden Boot, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £1,025.
Speaking of his chances of signing Sturridge on loan following dialogue with Villas-Boas, Coyle said: “Daniel did very well for us last season. We’ll have to wait and see whether anything happens.
“We have had dialogue. But when you come into a club, you have got to look at the whole picture and not make pre-judgements. I have told [Villas-Boas] to settle in and have a look and then we will have a chat.”
