bwin have installed both Manchester United and Arsenal as the 2/1 joint-favourties favourites to sign Cesc Fabregas this summer – despite the fact that the Spaniard has reiterated his desire to stay with his boyhood club Barcelona next season.
Fabregas, who spent eight years with Arsenal before his switch to the Camp Nou two years ago, saw his playing time limited under Tito Vilanova last term, leading Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to publicly declare that he “knows he (Fabregas) is unhappy at not playing”.
It has led to speculation about the future of the former Emirates captain – speculation that has not dampened despite the player himself stating this week he is happy to remain a Barcelona player.
Fabregas said: “I’ve always said that I’m happy at Barca. Whoever says that I’m leaving doesn’t know me and has never spoken with me.
“If someone says I don’t want to play at Barca, it’s completely absurd.”
Despite this public comment, reports today suggest that new United boss David Moyes still wants to bring Fabregas to Old Trafford and believes that Barcelona’s transfer activity this summer may force the Spain international into a rethink on that stance should it become clear his playing opportunities will continue to be infrequent.
And with concerns over the central midfield he has inherited – Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher and Anderson have either retired or are unlikely to feature next season – it is thought Moyes is still prepared to make a bid for Fabregas and bwin go 2/1 he completes a move to Old Trafford this transfer window.
But Arsenal, with whom Fabregas made 303 appearances, are thought to have first refusal on the midfielder should Barcelona sell, and punters can get 2/1 on him returning to the Emirates this summer.
Manchester City are 20/1 to sign Fabregas, while it is 3/10 that the Spaniard is still at Barcelona on September 1st.
