Manchester City’s latest signing believes his new team have a better chance of winning trophies than former club Arsenal.
Gael Clichy was part of the Invincibles squad which secured the Premier League in 2004 and also picked up an FA Cup winners’ medal in 2005 with the Gunners.
However, he has not won a trophy since then and believes the progress made by Manchester City over the last couple of years means they now have a bigger chance of success than the north Londoners.
The title odds offered by bwin support this assertion, with the Citizens third-favourites and priced at 7/2 to win the league.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are fourth-favourites with odds of 13/2, meaning a successful £25 free bet on the Gunners to finish first, available to new customers who sign up to a bwin account, would return £187.50.
“I joined City because I want to win things and you always progress with competition,” he said.
“Year after year we could see that City were getting stronger and bringing in new players. The squad is big but it’s not just the numbers but the names in the team as well.
“They had a great season and I hope next season will be even better because City can go on year after year.”
Clichy also suggested that Arsenal’s troubles in recent season had much to do with a lack of strength and depth.
While content with the composition of the starting XI, the Frenchman said that the squad struggled to cope when star players Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie were out injured.
One other advantage Man City have over Arsenal is that, by finishing a place above Arsene Wenger’s men in third, they secured automatic qualification to the Champions League.
The Gunners, meanwhile, will have to negotiate the play-offs before taking their place in the group stages.
