Chelsea are a hefty 9/1 to be sought-after Swansea striker Wilfried Bony’s next permanent club despite sending a scout to watch him against Liverpool.
To put that in context it’s a price the Blues, replete with three strikers already, share with AS Monaco.
The Daily Mail reported this morning that Chelsea’s chief European scout Mick Doherty was at Anfield as the Swans went down 4-1 to their reinvigorated hosts.
However, he was not alone amongst the talent spotters on Merseyside, with Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain also in the stands.
While the bwin layers remain deeply sceptical about a Stamford Bridge switch for Bony, the Etihad is deemed a far more likely next destination.
The Citizens are 4/1 co-favourites to be the Ivorian’s next stable and they certainly have the impetus to do so, with Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko all currently out injured.
Perhaps more surprisingly, both Tottenham and Arsenal share favouritism with the reigning champions while Liverpool too are shorter than Chelsea in the betting to sign Bony at 6/1.
Neither the north London rivals nor Brendan Rodgers’ men have quite as pressing a need to sign a centre-forward as City however.
The steadying of the Liverpool ship has coincided with them ditching a target-man-style line leader in favour of using Raheem Sterling as a false nine.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have both Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck to call upon.
Of the trio, Spurs arguably have most call for another centre forward, though they would surely be loathe to halt the leaps and bounds improvement that has accompanied Harry Kane’s promotion to the starting XI.
Yet, young talents do need to be blooded sparingly and using Kane alongside a more senior figure would be preferable.
Bony could be the answer, with Emmanuel Adebayor’s drive AWOL once more and the penny steadfastly refusing to drop for Roberto Soldado.
