Thibaut Courtois could be allowed to spend a fourth-successive season on loan at Atletico Madrid, as Chelsea search for a way to hold onto the young shot-stopper.
The Belgian has previously alluded to fact that he would only make a King’s Road return to assume first-choice status under Jose Mourinho.
However, long-standing Stamford Bridge gloveman Petr Cech’s continued brilliance has complicated Courtois’ succession to number one status at his parent club.
With Jose Mourinho unwilling to countenance losing the man who won last year’s Zamora trophy (awarded to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals to games ratio), Chelsea are understood to be willing to extend his loan spell at Vicente Calderon for another campaign on the proviso that he extends his contract.
However, The Daily Star quote the Roid Duvels man’s father Thierry as saying:
“Our negotiations with Chelsea still have to start.”
“Thibaut is now focused on the season with Atletico and the Champions League.”
His parent club could well meet his surrogate side in the quarter finals if they overcome Galatasaray in next week’s round of 16 second leg.
In the meantime the Spanish club once again boast the most miserly defence in their own top tier and they can be backed at 19/20 to beat Espanyol to nil as they bid to keep pace with the Clasico clubs in a three-way dance for the title.
Courtois and friends have shut out three of their last five La Liga visitors and look good value to do so once more against a club they’ve dealt a blank to on the way to victory in two of their last three meetings.

Chancing it on Courtois bagging his 14th clean sheet of the campaign in just it’s 28th game would yield a not-to-be-sniffed-at £28.50 profit for your fledgling balance sheet.
