Napoli are the new favourites to sign Chelsea striker Fernando Torres ahead of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan as the former Liverpool striker continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge while Jose Mourinho steps up his pursuit of a top-class forward.
Torres has just finished playing in the Confederations Cup, where, like the European Championships last summer, he finished the tournament in Brazil as top scorer.
But neither that nor the 21 goals he scored in all competitions for Chelsea last season seem to be enough to convince new Blues boss Mourinho that he has a future in west London, with reports suggesting that the forward has been offered to two clubs as makeweights in mega-money deals.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani is well publicised and with reports that Torres has been offered to the club, now managed by his two-time former boss Rafa Benitez, bwin make the Italian club the 4/1 favourites to be the Spaniard’s next club.
But after similar reports that Torres has also been put up in part-exchange for AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy, the Blues’ number nine has been cut to 20/1 to sign for the Serie A side this summer.
Barcelona are the second favourites at 5/1 to sign Torres in the current transfer window after initial reports last month stated that the La Liga champions want to take the Spaniard back to his homeland, while Atletico Madrid, his boyhood club, are 7/1 to bring the forward back to where he started his career as a 16 year-old.
Another of his former clubs, Liverpool, are 16/1 to re-sign Torres just two-and-a-half years after selling him to Chelsea for £50 million on a dramatic last day of the January transfer window.
If you think that Mourinho will keep the most expensive player in British history at Stamford Bridge beyond September 3rd, you can back that outcome at 2/5, while it is 20/1 and bigger for him to sign for other clubs.
