bwin looks at the Champions League betting odds, now that the eight teams who’ll enter the quarter-finals have been confirmed, with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich viewed as two of the top four favourites.
The favourites, at the time of writing, to win the competition are Manchester City. The 2023 winners have been given odds of 6/4 to retain their crown and win their second Champions League trophy later on this year.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, two of the most decorated clubs in Europe’s history, as well as Arsenal, making up the remainder of the top four of what is shaping up to be a truly mouth-watering competition.
Champions League betting odds
Man City – 6/4
Man City won the Champions League in 2023, beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final thanks to a goal from Rodri, who was arguably one of the world’s best players last season.
Despite domestic domination, which saw them win three of the last four Premier League titles, Man City had never won the Champions League, but that all changed last year.
According to bwin, they’re also the favourites to retain their European crown this year, with odds of 7/4. A draw against Copenhagen, who were arguably the weakest of the teams who qualified for the knockout round, will certainly have helped too, with Guardiola’s side breezing into the quarter-finals, where they’ve been given a tough draw against Real Madrid. The first leg between the two sides in Spain ended 3-3, meaning it’s all to play for in England next week.
When they’ve got their whole squad fit and firing, there are few teams in the world who can compete with Man City, who boast the likes of Erling Haaland, John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri, all of whom have legitimate claims to being the best players on the planet in their respective positions.
Will competing in a three-horse race for the Premier League with Liverpool and Arsenal, while also dealing with tough games in the knockout round of the Champions League prove to be too much for Pep Guardiola’s side? Perhaps so, but if anyone can do it, City can.
Arsenal – 11/2
The only team to feature on this list who have yet to win a Champions League are Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal…
The Gunners have, over the last 18 months, shown that they have all the makings of a top side. After finishing second last season, Arsenal find themselves in a title race once again, this time with Man City and Liverpool.
However, it’s the Champions League that will excite the Arsenal faithful the most, with bwin price Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and co at 9/2 to win Europe’s premier club competition. Despite their tough draw against Bayern Munich, they’e been priced ahead of their quarter-final opponents, as well as PSG and Barcelona, and even Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Some may argue that this year’s Champions League may come too early for Arsenal, but given the nature of knockout football, there’s no reason Arteta’s side shouldn’t consider themselves one of the favourites for this year’s competition.
The Gunners lost their first leg 1-0 to Porto in Portugal last month, but a 1-0 victory at the Emirates took the came to penalties, which they ended up winning to progress to the next round, which many fans expected Mikel Arteta’s side to do when the draw was made. They ended up drawing their quarter-final first-leg 2-2 in England, meaning they’ll have to go to Germany and get a result to progress to the final four.
Real Madrid – 7/1
Jude Bellingham will be hoping to steer Real Madrid to European glory in his first season at the club, just like Zinedine Zidane did back in 2002.
Real are top of La Liga, and they’ll be hoping that their strong domestic form is carried into the Champions League. They faced the ever-exciting RB Leipzig in the first knockout round, beating the German club 2-1 on aggregate to progress to the next round. Real’s draw against Man City in the last eight saw their odds rise from 5/1 to 6/1, with the bookies clearly thinking the English side may have took much for them. Their odds then increased again to 7/1 following their draw in the first-leg, with the bookies of the belief that the result did them no favours in their hopes to progress to the final four.
With the likes of Vinicus, Rodrygo and of course the aforementioned Bellingham on their books, as well as both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos still knocking out, Madrid have one of the best squads in world football at their disposal, and they’ll be using all of that in their attempts to win their 15th Champions League.
Bayern Munich – 7/1
While Haaland may think he’s the best striker in the world, someone who may have something to say about that is Harry Kane, who back in 2021, was actually close to joining Manchester City himself.
That didn’t end up happening, and Kane stayed at Tottenham for two more seasons before leaving for Bayern Munich this summer. Since his move, the Englishman has been in staggering form, scoring 39 goals in his first 38 games in all competitions.
Kane moved to Bayern in search of his first trophy in club football, and unfortunately for him, Thomas Tuchel’s side are sat in second place in the Bundesliga, 16 points behind Bayer Leverkusen after a 3-0 loss to the league leaders last month.
While Kane might not win his first domestic league title this year, he’ll be hoping for victory in the Champions League come June 2024, with bwin viewing Bayern Munich as the joint-third favourites for the competition, with odds of 7/1.
The odds INCREASED from 4/1 following Bayern’s 1-0 loss to Lazio in the first-leg in Italy. However, the German giants managed to overturn their advantage and win 3-0 at home, progressing to the next round, where they’ll now play Arsenal. After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, their odds shifted to 7/1, with the second leg taking place in Germany.
With Kane being supported by the likes of Leroy Sane, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, the latter of whom is one of the most exciting young players in all of Europe, Bayern will be a handful for any team they come up against.
