Gary Cahill looks set to make his debut for Chelsea at Swansea this evening after John Terry was ruled out of the game.
The Blues skipper has aggravated a knee injury and joins a Stamford Bridge injury list which appears to be growing by the day.
Midfielders Frank Lampard (calf), John Obi Mikel (hamstring) and Ramires (medial knee ligaments) will also miss the trip to the Liberty Stadium.
On top of that, Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are still with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, so boss Andre Villas-Boas’ squad is being stretched to the limit as the transfer deadline looms.
However, Terry’s misfortune is Cahill’s gain, with the £7 million signing from Bolton Wanderers now set to make his first appearance for his new club.
The England centre-back has been forced to sit on the bench during the goalless draw at Norwich and the 1-0 FA Cup success over QPR at Loftus Road last weekend.
But Cahill should be given the nod to take his place alongside either David Luiz or Branislav Ivanovic at the heart of the Blues’ defence in south Wales.
The former Aston Villa stopper has shown enough times throughout his career that he has an eye for a goal – he scored one in every ten games on average for Bolton – and looks tempting at 22/1 to open the scoring against the Swans.

The 25-year-old is also at 22/1 to score the final goal of the game, while he can be backed at 6/1 to score at any time.
Chelsea are currently 22/25 favourites to get all three points, with the draw at 12/5 and Swansea priced at 33/10.
