Demba Ba to score against Bolton @ 7/5
Where would Newcastle be without Demba Ba? It’s not a question the Geordies want to ask themselves but while he’s in the form he is punters need to take advantage, starting by backing him to score at Bolton on Boxing Day.
Ba has been a revelation since moving to England with West Ham nearly 12 months ago. He scored seven times in 12 games for the Irons and has bagged 13 in 16 in the league for Newcastle this season – over half the 23 the Toon have managed.
Bolton have only kept one clean sheet at the Reebok this season and that was against Europa League-weary Stoke in their only win. Owen Coyle’s men have lost their other eight games, conceding 21 goals in the process (the worst record in the division) and Ba can profit from their poor defending.
Peter Crouch to score against Aston Villa @ 7/5
Aston Villa are so bad at defending set-pieces they let Yossi Benayoun – Yossi Benayoun! – score a header from a corner on Wednesday night. What chance have they got against Stoke?
Very little I would suggest, so I advise getting on Peter Crouch to score against his old club and keep the pressure piled on Alex McLeish.
Villa’s rearguard will be bombarded with the usual long throws, corners and free kicks and Tony Pulis will get all the height in the team he can, which as we know is considerable. Cue Crouch, who has a decent record this season – four league goals, a further two in the Europa League – and will constantly be in and around the action as the ball gets flung into the Villa box at every opportunity. It won’t be pretty (I’m on about the football, not Crouch) but it could reap us a profit.
Peter Odemwingie to score against Manchester City @ 5/2
Now I know on the face of it this is an outside shot, what with West Brom expected to lose heavily against Manchester City, but I fancy that the Baggies can nick a goal and who is more likely to do it than Peter Odemwingie?
After an injury-interrupted campaign, the Nigerian is fully fit and hitting his stride with goals in his last two games. Odemwingie scored 15 league goals last term and certainly knows where the net is, which could spell trouble for a City side that are not watertight on their travels by any means.
The Citizens have kept just one away clean sheet all season and that was at hapless Blackburn at the start of October. They have let in 11 goals in eight trips, which doesn’t scream champions (Man Utd have conceded just three) and at a huge price of 5/2 to score at any time, Odemwingie could prove to a value punt.
