Ramires has given Chelsea a timely boost by signing a new five-year contract with the club.
The Brazilian midfielder, who joined from Benfica in an £18 million deal at the start of last season, will now remain at Stamford Bridge until at least 2017.
Plenty of speculation has been surrounding the west London outfit since the sacking of boss Andre Villas-Boas on Sunday, with a number of top names linked with the vacancy.
But Blues fans will presumably be warmed by the news that Ramires, who has impressed in recent months after a slow start to his Chelsea career, is committed to the cause.
“I am very happy with my new contract. I am very happy with the support I have playing for this club so I want to say thank you to Chelsea,” he told the club’s official website.
The all-action engine roomer has scored eight goals in 50 league appearances for the Blues thus far and also has 27 caps for Brazil, scoring twice.
He is expected to feature in interim boss Roberto Di Matteo’s first match tomorrow evening – the FA Cup fifth-round replay against Birmingham City at St Andrews.
Chelsea are rated as 3/4 favourites to win the match in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with the draw available at 5/2 and Chris Hughton’s men priced at odds of 15/4.
Punters who believe Chelsea may require extra-time or even penalties to advance can back them to make the quarter-finals by any means necessary at 7/20, while Birmingham are at 21/10 in the same market.
